Highly durable Hardrow Slates from Forticrete have been specified for the multi-million pound, award-winning, remodelling of Tennants Auctioneers, one of the leading regional auction houses in the country, situated in Leyburn, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
The large-scale extension to the Auction Centre, named The Garden Rooms at Tennants, saw the construction of display galleries, large sales and function areas, seminar rooms and theatrical facilities complete with the latest technologies. The state-of-the-art facility also houses a café, bar & restaurant, visitors shop, private function suites and conference facilities.
To ensure the development integrated seamlessly with the existing building and local vernacular, project architects Langtry-Langton specified Forticrete's Hardrow Slates in its Old Stone colour, incorporating purpose-made hips and valleys in the design to create a more traditional roof appearance.
Christian Richards, Project Leader at Langtry-Langton Architects, commented: "Naturally complementing the traditional slates used historically at the auction house and the development's surrounding environment, Forticrete's Hardrow Slates provided us with a regal finish, befitting of this impressive development."
Suitable for use on many types of buildings, but particularly for use in regions where a natural stone slate appearance is required, Forticrete's Hardrow roof slates are manufactured with a slight variation in dimensional tolerance, adding to the product's character when laid.
The range, which has an extensive choice of 20 tile colours that will mellow with age, is widely used for single sized slate roofs but can also be laid in either random widths or diminishing courses for an authentic traditional appearance.
The slates are available in a variety of sizes, for both roofing and vertical cladding. The sizes range from 457mm x 305mm (min. pitch 25o), right up to the imposing 610mm x 457mm which can be laid confidently at pitches as low as 17.5o, creating a bold appearance. The colour of Hardrow Slates will change with natural weathering, but the integrity of the tile carries a 30-year guarantee from date of supply.
